2012-13 Winter Academic All-Big Ten Selections Announced

Forty-eight Spartans student-athletes were recognized for having a 3.0 or better GPA.

Quick Hits: Four-year letterwinner collected a career record of 54-31 . . . Started in 26 career duals (15-11) . . . Three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 2014 . . . Pursuing a master's degree in law enforcement intelligence and analysis . . . Qualified for NCAA Championships in 2013.

2014-15 (Senior) 9-6 Overall, 4-5 Duals, 5-1 Open Tournaments: Named Academic All-Big Ten for the third straight year . . . Had his senior season cut short after suffering a head injury in the Michigan dual on Jan. 11 . . . Recorded a 9-6 record and started in nine duals (4-5) . . . Finished in sixth place at the MSU Open with two sudden victories and four wins on the day … Won two matches at the EMU Duals, including a 12-4 major decision win over Daniel Fleet of Olivet … Defeated Shaun’Qae McCurty at the Northern Illinois dual … Earned a major decision against Spencer Derifield of South Dakota State at the UNI Open … Beat Robert Schlitt of Bucknell at the Bucknell dual.

2013-14 (Junior) 6-3 Overall, 3-1 Duals, 3-2 Open Tournaments: Placed fourth at the MSU Open going 3-2, including a 16-5 major decision over Louden Gorden of Notre Dame (Ohio) . . . Starter in four duals to go 3-1, including a 5-4 decision over seventh-ranked R.J. Pena of Oregon State . . . . Missed a majority of the season with an injury . . . Academic All-Big Ten selection.

2012-13 (Sophomore) 21-14 Overall, 8-5 Duals, 11-5 Open Tournaments: Finished fourth in the EMU Open with a 2-0 record ... Competed at the MSU Open with a 2-1 record, finishing second ... Finished fourth at the Reno Tournament of Champions ... Took fifth at the Storm Open with a 3-2 record ... Went 2-2 in the Big Ten Championships to take seventh place, with victories over Michigan's Collin Zeerip 7-4, and Taylor Walsh of Indiana ... Made it to the NCAA Championships for the first time, only one of four Spartans to do so... Appeared in two matches being defeated by Alex Dieringer of Oklahoma State, who came in third in the NCAA and Ty Vinson of Oregon State ... Named to the NWCA All-Academic Team and Academic All-Big Ten.

2011-12 (Red-shirt Freshman) 18-8 Overall, 18-8 Open Tournaments: Went 1-2 at the EMU Open ... Finished 2-1 at the MSU Open before suffering an injury ... Went 1-2 at the Nittany Lion Open ... Took second place at the Purple Raider Open with a 3-1 record ... Also went 3-1 at the Alma Open and placed second ... Placed third at the Laker Classic and went 3-1 ... Beat Anthony Pace of Central Michigan, 2-1, at the Edinboro Open and placed second.

2010-11 (Redshirt): Compiled a 9-3 overall record (8-3 NCAA) at 149 pounds . . . Went 4-1 to take sixth in the freshman/sophomore division of the Eastern Michigan Open . . . Went 3-0 but had two medical forfeits to take sixth in the freshman/sophomore division of the MSU Open . . . Went 1-2 at the Penn State Open.

PREP: Four-year letterwinner for wrestling ... Two-time all-state selection ... Finished 41-3 his senior year and was the Division 2 state runner-up at 145 pounds ... Placed fourth in the state as a junior at 140 pounds with a 46-6 record ... Was a district and regional champion as a junior and senior ... Also lettered in cross country and tennis.
