2011-12 Spartan Wrestling Outlook

Spartans return eight wrestlers with NCAA Championships experience.

2012-13 (RS Freshman) 1-1 Overall, 1-1 Open Tournaments: Went 1-1 at the MSU Open ... Started the year off with a 24-9 tech fall victory over Kennedy King College's Roy Jones ... He then fell to Ohio's Kagan Squire 1-11 in a major decision.

2011-12 (Redshirt) 12-7 Overall: Redshirted and went 12-7 in open competition ... Went 2-2 at the EMU Open ... Finished 5-2 at the MSU in the freshman/sophomore division and notched two falls ... Again went 2-2 at the Purple Raider Open and recorded two more falls ... Went 3-1 at the Alma Open and defeated Matt Morrill of Grand Valley State by tech. fall, 21-3.

PREP: Won the Division 3 state title as a senior in 2011 at 135 pounds with a 60-1 record ... Defeated John Wiggers of Fremont by major decision, 16-4, in the state championship match ... Along with his father, Vance, who is the head coach at Lake Fenton, became a part of the fourth father-son combination to win individual state titles in Flint-area history ... Vance won titles for the Lake Fenton Blue Devils in 1985 and 1987 ... Defeated Jake Weissand of Carman-Ainsworth in 2011 for his third county title ...
