Wrestling is Overmatched Against No. 1 Penn State

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State wrestling fell to No. 1 Penn State 41-0 on Sunday afternoon at a sold out Rec Hall. The Spartans (4-6, 0-3 Big Ten) were unable to win a match against the Nittany Lions, and lost five matches to wrestlers ranked inside the top-3. The dual started at 125 pounds and Brenan Lyon lost to No. 2 Nico Megaludis of Penn State, by a 19-6 major decision. Brandon Fifield dropped a 7-2 decision at 133 pounds to Jordan Conway and Nick Trimble lost a 10-2 major decision to Bryan Pearsall at 141 pounds, putting MSU down 11-0 to start the dual. Senior Dan Osterman lost to James English of Penn State, 6-0 and No. 19 David Cheza dropped a narrow 6-4 decision to James Vollrath at 157 pounds. No. 2 David Taylor of Penn State pinned Nick Proctor in 1:37 and Jordan Wohlfert lost to No. 3 Matt Brown by tech. fall, 22-7. John Rizqallah lost by fall to No. 1 Ed Ruth in 1:37 and Luke Jones dropped a major decision to No. 3 Quentin Wright, 13-4. At heavyweight, No. 4 Michael McClure dropped a close decision to Jon Gingrich, 5-3.
The Spartans are back in action next weekend when it hosts No. 4 Iowa on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. Penn State 41, Michigan State 0 |
