Wresting Drops Narrow Dual to No. 13 Nebraska, 23-19

LINCOLN, Neb. - Michigan State wrestling lost a hard-fought match to No. 13 Nebraska, 23-19, on Friday night in the final match at the NU Coliseum. Senior Dan Osterman gave the Spartans a 19-14 lead with only two matches remaining after pinning No. 12 Jake Sueflohn in 2:55 at 149 pounds but MSU couldn't hold off the Huskers as they went on to take the remaining two matches.
The Huskers led 14-13 after winning the 141-pound match but Dan Osterman maneuvered a clutch fall at 149 pounds, pinning Sueflohn with just five seconds remaining in the first period. Osterman picked up his third fall of the season and gave MSU a 19-14 heading into the last two matches.
Ryan Watts lost a tough decision at 157 pounds to No. 4 James Green, 5-2, and the Spartans were clinging to a 19-17 lead going into the last match of the night.
Nebraska's Austin Wilson pinned Nick Proctor in 3:45, giving the Huskers the comeback win and ending the Spartans' upset hopes.
The dual got started at 174 pounds and No. 4 Robert Kokesh of Nebraska won by tech. fall over Jordan Wohlfert, 19-3. John Rizqallah then dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 4 Josh Inhen of Nebraska at 184 pounds, 6-1, giving the Huskers an early 8-0 lead.
Nebraska extended its lead with a decision at 197 pounds before No. 7 Michael McClure took down Spencer Johnson of Nebraska, 5-2. McClure improved his record to 26-2 on the season, winning his 11th dual this year.
Brenan Lyon won his second consecutive major decision with a 14-1 victory over Eric Coufal of Nebraska at 125 pounds and the Huskers decided to forfeit the 133-pound match, giving the Spartans a 13-11 lead.
The Spartans are back in action Sunday, Feb. 3 when they take on No. 4 Minnesota at 12 p.m. ET. The match will be streamed live on the Big Ten Digital Network.
