MADISON, Wis. - Sixth-seeded heavyweight Mike McClure pinned Purdue's Alex White in just 36 seconds in the first round, but fell to third-seeded Michael McMullan in the quarterfinals, 5-1, in the first session of the Big Ten Wrestling Championships Saturday afternoon at the Kohl Center. McClure, ranked seventh in the nation, will face Chris Lopez of Illinois in the consolation round Saturday night. McClure defeated Lopez in the dual against the Fighting Illini on Jan. 26, 6-1.

Sophomore Nick Trimble also advanced to the quarterfinals at 149 pounds after he recorded a 2-1 decision over eighth-seeded Brandon Nelsen of Purdue in the first round. Trimble fell in the quarters to top-seeded Jake Sueflohn of Nebraska by major decision, 17-5. Trimble will face Wisconsin's Rylan Lubeck in the consolation round.

John Rizqallah was edged by No. 6 seed Kenny Courts of Ohio State in the first round at 184 pounds, 4-3. Rizqallah will take on fourth-seeded TJ Dudley of Nebraska in the consolation round.

Ninth-seeded Nick McDiarmid dropped a 6-3 decision to eighth-seeded Timmy McCall of Wisconsin in the first round at 197 pounds and will face No. 7 seed Alex Polizzi of Northwestern later tonight.

In the 125-pound bracket, Brenan Lyon lost his first-round match to Nebraska's Tim Lambert by major decision, 13-1. Lyon will face Michigan's Conor Youtsey in the consolation round.



At 133 pounds, Garth Yenter will take on Johnni DiJulius of Ohio State tonight after falling to Zane Richards in the first round, 5-2.

Brian Gibbs will match up against Josh Dziewa of Iowa in the consolation round at 141 pounds following a 10-5 loss to Purdue's Danny Sabatello in the first round.

In the 157-pound weight class, Roger Wildmo will face sixth-seeded Taylor Walsh of Indiana in the consolation round. In his first career match at the Big Ten Championships, Wildmo dropped a 12-3 major decision to Penn State's Dylan Alton.

Bobby Nash will face Dan Yates of Michigan tonight in the consolation round; Nash fell to Danny Zilverberg of Minnesota, 7-2, in the first round.

At 174 pounds, fifth-year senior Nick Kaczanowski lost his first-round match to No. 4 Logan Storley of Minnesota and is set to face sixth-seeded Mark Martin of Ohio State Saturday night.

The Spartans are currently in 12th place with four points.
