Junior Michael McClure qualified for his first career NCAA Championships.

March 9, 2013
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Junior Michael McClure joined Dan Osterman in punching his ticket to the NCAA Championships after a 5-2 decision over Chris Lopez of Illinois in session two. McClure secured at least a top-nine finish and a spot in Des Moines.
McClure will face Ben Apland of Michigan in the consolation semifinals at heavyweight tomorrow in session three. McClure topped Apland earlier this year, 5-1.
Osterman fell in the semifinals to Dylan Ness of Minnesota at 149 pounds, 10-9. The score was tied 7-7 after a furious first period but a pair of escapes and ride time in favor of Ness was the difference. Osterman will face Andrew Alton of Penn State in the consolation semifinals tomorrow.
At 157 pounds, Ryan Watts lost to Jason Welch of Northwestern in session one. Watts then beat Collin Zeerip of Michigan 7-4. Later in session two, Watts lost a narrow 3-2 decision to Dylan Alton of Penn State, 3-2. Watts gave up a takedown in the first period and evened the score with a pair of escapes heading into the third. But, Alton came away with the deciding escape in the third and the decision.
Watts will face Taylor Walsh of Indiana in session three tomorrow with a trip to the NCAA Championships on the line. The winner secures seventh place with the top-seven clinching a berth to NCAAs.
Brenan Lyon (125 pounds), Brandon Fifield (133), Nick Trimble (141), Nick Proctor (165), Jordan Wohlfert (174), John Rizqallah (184) and Luke Jones (197) were each eliminated in session two.
