DES MOINES, Iowa - Sophomore Ryan Watts and fellow sophomore John Rizqallah were each eliminated on Thursday night in session two of the 2013 NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Watts and Rizqallah were each wrestling their first NCAA Championships and fell in the consolation round. Both Dan Osterman and Michael McClure also lost second round championship matches but will wrestle tomorrow in session three.
Senior Dan Osterman fell in a hard-fought match in the second round to No. 4 seed Cole VonOhlen of Air Force, 7-6. Osterman was down 6-3 after the first two periods and started the third in the down position. He maneuvered a quick escape and followed that up with a takedown, evening the score at six.
VonOhlen got an escape and had a stall warning called against him late but Osterman couldn't score again in the deciding period. He will face the winner of Donald Vinson of Binghamton tomorrow in session three.
Junior Michael McClure lost his match at heavyweight, a 6-0 decision to Zac Thomusseit of Pittsburgh in the second round. McClure will face David Marone of Virginia Tech in the consolation bracket tomorrow.
At 157 pounds, sophomore Ryan Watts fell to Jake O'Hara of Columbia in the pigtail match, 2-1. It was Watt's first appearance at NCAAs and he finished the season 21-14.
John Rizqallah fell in his consolation match to Ty Vinson of Oregon State, 5-0. Vinson scored all five points in the first period after recording a takedown and three nearfall points. Rizqallah finished the season 23-11 after qualifying for his first NCAA Championships.
Session three begins tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN3.com as well as broadcast on ESPNU.
