VESTAL, N.Y. - The Michigan State wrestling team swept all three of its duals Sunday at the Sprawl & Brawl, defeating Shippensburg, Harvard and Binghamton. The Spartans (3-0) shut out Shippensburg in the morning opener, 50-0, controlled Harvard, 31-10, and held off host Binghamton, who was receiving votes in the Top 25, 19-15.

MSU opened with a dominating 50-0 performance over Shippensburg, winning all 10 of the matches, including six falls. Josh Harper (133), David Cheza (157), Ben Boudro (165), Ian Hinton (184), Tyler Dickenson (197) and Mike McClure (Hwt.) all recorded pins in the dual, while Eric Olanowski (125) and Curran Jacobs (184) notched major decisions. Dan Osterman registered a 9-5 decision at 141.

The Spartans won seven of 10 matches in the 31-10 victory over Harvard. Harper delivered his second fall of the day at the 1:48 mark over Fermin Mendez, while Osterman won by technical fall with an impressive 16-1 victory against Joseph Alie as MSU opened an 11-3 lead. Harvard cut the score to 11-10 by winning the next two matches at 149 and 157, but the Spartans closed the dual by winning five straight.

In the finale, Michigan State claimed the last three matches and rallied from a 15-9 deficit to defeat Binghamton, 19-15. MSU and Binghamton alternated wins until the streak was broken at 174 pounds, as Ryan McGarity pinned Curran Jacobs to make it 15-9 in favor of the Bearcats. But the Spartans responded as Hinton (6-5) and Dickenson (4-1) recorded wins at 184 and 197 pounds, respectively, followed by an 11-0 major decision by McClure at heavyweight. At 157, Cheza, ranked 14th, defeated third-ranked Justin Lister, 7-4, while at 141, Osterman beat No. 20 Anwar Goeres, 3-1.

 

 

Michigan State returns to action for a road swing at Northern Illinois on Friday, Dec. 3 and Iowa on Sunday, Dec. 5.
