EAST LANSING-- Nine Michigan State University wrestlers finished in the top eight of their weight class at the Michigan State Open, held at Jenison Fieldhouse this weekend. The tournament was not a team event, and no team scores were kept.

Leading the way for MSU was senior co-captain David Morgan (Ferndale), who defeated Joe Warren of Michigan to claim his third straight Michigan State Open 118-pound title. Issac Miller (Jr., Flint) at 134 lbs., Nick Muzashvili (So., Unadilla, NY) at 190 lbs., and Marco Sanchez (Sr., Brooklyn, NY) at heavyweight all finished third in their respective weight classes. Also placing for Michigan State were Adam Elderkin (So., Sand Lake) seventh at 150 lbs., and Chris Williams (Fr., Fowlerville), eighth at 118 lbs.

The Outstanding Wrestler award went to TJ Williams of Lassen College, and Michigan's Jeff Catrabone won the Most Falls Award with three pins.

"I'm pleased with the effort our kids put forth today. We certainly got an outstanding performance from David Morgan. Today pointed out some areas we need to improve on, but I expect weill make all the right adjustments," said MSU head coach Tom Minkel.
