Spartan Wrestlers Place Eight at Northern Iowa Open
Morgan Captures Third Title of Season
East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State University wrestling team placed eight individuals in the top six of their weight class at the Northern Iowa Open on Saturday.
Senior captain David Morgan (Ferndale, MI) claimed his third tournament title of the season, defeating Eric Juergens of Iowa for the 118-pound championship. With the victory, Morgan improves his record to a perfect 14-0 for the season. Grabbing second-place honors for Michigan State were Greg DeGrand (Jr., Ann Arbor, MI) at 158 pounds, and Will Hill (So., Indianapolis, IN) at 167 pounds. Issac Miller (Jr., Flint, MI) finished the day third at 134 pounds, while David Hughes (So., Lake Hoptacong, NJ) came in fourth at 150 pounds. At 126 pounds, Pat McNamara (Fr., Jordan, MN) defeated teammate Jason Nusbaum (So., Centerville, MI) by way of default in the fifth-place match, while Corey Posey (Fr., Westfield, NJ) rounded out the Spartan place-winners with a sixth-place showing at 142 pounds.
MSU returns to the mat on Dec. 10th at 7:30 p.m. when they travel to Ann Arbor to face the Michigan Wolverines, in what will be the first dual meet of the season for both teams.
