Morgan Captures 118-Pound Title at Midlands Championships

Senior rings up 100th career win as MSU finishes ninth among 53 entrants

LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior David Morgan (Ferndale) continued to roll, sweeping five matches on the way to the championship at 118 pounds at the Midlands Championships at Evanston, Ill., Dec. 29-30. Morgan surpassed the 100-victory total for his career en route to the victory.

Morgan, ranked No. 2 in the nation at 118, ran his season record to 19-0 with his fourth tournament championship of the season. He became just the ninth Spartan wrestler to earn 100 career victories with his opening-round win over UNC-Greensborois Corey Williams. His career record currently stands at 104-9. Morgan defeated Iowa Stateis Cody Sanderson, 3-0, in the championship.

Michigan State also earned a strong performance from 126-pound Pat McNamara (Jordan, Minn.), who claimed fourth place in his weight class. The Spartans finished with 59.00 points as a team, good for ninth place in the field of 53 entrants.

The Spartans open their dual match season this weekend with a home dual against Ohio State Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Jenison Field House and a road match Sunday at Iowa.
