MSU Wrestlers Upend Northwestern
Morgan Remains Undefeated
EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State University wrestling team, ranked No. 8 by the NWCA, knocked off the No. 25 Northwestern Wildcats Saturday night, 23-12 in Evanston, Ill. Michigan State improves to 2-2 on the year, 2-2 in the Big Ten while Northwestern falls to 5-5, 2-3.
Senior captain David Morgan, ranked No. 1 in the nation at 118 pounds, defeated Dominic Caruso 6-1 to give MSU a 3-0 advantage. Morgan is now a perfect 28-0 on the season. Freshman Pat McNamara increased the Spartan lead to 8-0 with a 15-0 technical fall over Micah Hey at 126 lbs. McNamara, now 19-4, entered the match ranked No. 7 in nationally.
After Northwestern took the next two matches, consecutive wins by Corey Posey (150 lbs.), Greg DeGrand (158), and Will Hill (167) sealed the dual for Michigan State. Heavy weight Matt Lamb won by forfeit to make the final 23-12.
MSU returns to the mat Feb. 1, as they host Illinois at Jenison Fieldhouse at 1 p.m., then head to Montrose HS for a dual against Eastern Michigan at 7p.m.
