Pre-Seeding Announced for Big Ten Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The preliminary seeds for this year's Big Ten Wrestling Championships were released this morning by the conference office. The pre-seeds are determined by a vote among the conference's head wrestling coaches after consideration of regular-season results. This year's Championships will be hosted by the University of Michigan at Crisler Arena on March 6-7.
The Spartans' two-time defending Big Ten Champion Franklin Gomez, who has posted a record of 20-1 this season, is the third seed at 133 pounds. Minnesota's Jayson Ness (23-0) is the No. 1 seed while Iowa's Daniel Dennis (16-2), who defeated Gomez earlier this year in an overtime bout, is the No. 2 seed. Ness and Gomez have not met this season.
The following MSU wrestlers are also seeded: freshman Dan Osterman (20-11) is the No. 7 seed at 141 pounds, redshirt sophomore David Cheza (21-10) is seeded fifth at 149 pounds, senior Kyle Bounds (25-15) is the sixth seed at 165, redshirt sophomore Ian Hinton is seeded seventh at 174 and senior Alan O'Donnell is the eighth seed in the heavyweight class.
