EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State Spartan wrestling team, led by head coach Tom Minkel, has been recognized for its achievement in the classroom by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA). The Spartans earned All-Academic Team honors by ranking No. 17 in the NCAA with a cumulative team GPA of 3.087.

Michigan State sophomore Ryan Watts has been named NWCA Individual All-Academic team. Watts, a criminal justice major, recorded a 3.35 GPA. He qualified for his first NCAA Championships this past season and finished with a 21-14 record.

The Spartans have been recognized on the NWCA All-Academic Team three of the last four years.

Other Big Ten teams ranked include Nebraska (No. 2), Indiana (No. 4), Penn State (No. 10), Northwestern (No. 20), Minnesota (No. 23) and Purdue (No. 30).
