Spartan Freshman Claims Greco-Roman Title

EAST LANSING, Mich. - On May 17, Michigan State freshman Chris Williams claimed the 1998 FILA Junior National Greco-Roman Title at 123.25 lbs. by pinning his opponent Daniel Fell of Marquette at the 1:41 mark in the championship finals.

Williams will represent the United States at the FILA Junior World Championships to be held in LeClaire, Egypt, August 18-21. The FILA Junior Age Group, formerly known as the Espoir Division, includes athletes between the ages of 17 and 20 years old.

Williams, a native of Perry, Michigan, redshirted during his first season with the Spartans. He came to MSU after winning 2 state title while competing at Fowlerville High School.
