No. 21 Wrestling to Kick Off 2009-10 Campaign at EMU Open on Saturday

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The No. 21 Michigan State wrestling team will begin the 2009-10 season on Saturday when it heads to Ypsilanti for the Eastern Michigan Open. The unattached event, which is not part of the Spartans' 16 official team competitions, will begin at 9 a.m. and will feature Division I, II and III wrestlers from around the nation. "We finished five weeks of training and we're looking forward to getting into competition," said MSU head coach Tom Minkel. "We've been working very hard and we're ready to show up and compete and challenge." MSU returns nine of 10 starters from last year's team, including four wrestlers (Franklin Gomez, Eric Olanowski, Ian Hinton and Anthony Jones Jr.) who competed at last year's NCAA Championship. Gomez is the defending national champion at 133 pounds.
