Hermilo Esquivel (125 pounds) and Chris Nash (285) each took first place in their respective weight classes in the freshman/sophomore division and Michael McClure (285) placed first in the open division.

In the freshman/sophomore division, Garth Yenter placed second at 125 pounds, Terry Turner took third at 133 pounds and Jordan Wohlfert placed second at 174 pounds.

In the open division, John Rizqallah placed second at 184 pounds and Nick McDiarmid also finished in second at 197 pounds. Robert Nash took home second at 165 pounds and Dan Osterman placed third at 149 pounds.

Cheza Gets a Sixth Year
Senior David Cheza was granted a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA and will be back in the starting lineup this upcoming season. Cheza lost multiple seasons due to injury and was granted a medical hardship waiver to compete this season.

Replacing Senior Leadership
Michigan State lost four NCAA qualifiers from last season and six seniors that saw regular action in the starting lineup. The Spartans have just two seniors this season in David Cheza and Dan Osterman. Cheza will serve as the captain for the 2012-13 season.

Young Talent
The Spartans will rely on young talent to contribute in the starting lineup this season and could have either freshman or sophomores starting in six different weight classes this season. Sophomore Josh Heinzer, a transfer from Iowa Central Community College, is penciled in as the starter at 125 pounds, while Terry Turner, Brandon Fifield, Nick Proctor, Troy Lamson, John Rizqallah and Nick McDiarmid will each be counted on this season.

Spartans Compete Internationally
Former Spartan Franklin Gomez competed in the London Olympics over the summer and dropped both of his matches at 60 kg while wrestling for Puerto Rico. Steve Andrus took second at the Olympic Trials, wrestling Greco-Roman, and was one win away from qualifying for the Olympics.

Last Year's MSU Open
The Spartans had 16 wrestlers place in the top six at the MSU Open last season, including individual titles from David Cheza in the 157-pound open division and Nick Proctor in the 165-pound freshman/sophomore division.

Next Up
Michigan State begins its dual season on Friday, Nov. 16 at Eastern Michigan. MSU fell to EMU 20-16 last season in East Lansing.
