EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State wrestling will begin its dual season on Friday, Nov. 16 at Eastern Michigan. The Spartans will open up against the Eagles for the second straight season and will look to avenge a 20-16 loss from last year at IM West.
"Eastern, that program has steadily grown and gotten better," head coach Tom Minkel said. "They are a very competitive team and we won't take them lightly when we go down there."

Minkel noted the rise of youth wrestling in the state of Michigan that has grown the sport and created parity in collegiate wrestling.
"One thing that happens in the state is Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Michigan and us are all recruiting from the same pool of kids," Minkel said. "They all know each other; a lot of them grew up together and have been on the same teams together and have traveled together. I think that breeds a really strong rivalry between the four schools and that is nothing but great for college wrestling."
