Cross Country Notes
UNDEFEATED: Senior co-captain Kyle Baker led the Spartans to their fourth-consecutive victory of the season, this time the Tiger Classic, held at the Clemson Cross Country Course on Sat., Oct. 18 in Clemson, S.C. MSU tallied 31 points in the victory. Runner-up Mt. St. Mary's scored 66, followed by Alabama's 73. The top five for Michigan State all finished in the top ten.
THROUGH THE GATE: Baker was again the first Spartan across the line, but his streak of three consecutive individual victories was broken by Tim Broe of Alabama in 24:17, a new course record. Baker placed second in 24:25. MSU's next scorer was Pickney native Chris Wehrman with a fifth-place finish in 24:47. He was followed by a trio of Spartans with Dearborn native Steve Schell finishing seventh (24:51), Jim Jurcevich eighth (24:53) and Northville native Joe Leo ninth (24:56).
RANKED: Michigan State is ranked No. 7 in this week's NCAA Division I cross country poll. Five Big Ten teams are ranked in the top 25 including Michigan (No. 3), Wisconsin (No. 6), Iowa (No. 23) and Minnesota (No. 24).
BRING 'EM ON: The Spartans vie for their fifth-consecutive team title on Fri., Oct. 24 at the Eastern Michigan Open in Ypsilanti. Race time is slated for 5 p.m.
