Opening comments...
Obviously happy to get a win and I thought our kids fought hard in the second half. The biggest difference was defensively. We started to get in passing lanes and pressuring the ball, and we got some offense from our defense. There is no question that Takeya gave us a spark off the bench. I think she was the key and I thought Courtney played extremely well.

On the play of the guards...
One of our offenses is where we set a lot of ball screens. The only way we can be successful at that is if we have guards that can put it on the deck and get to the rim and create. What I had to do was give Takeya, Courtney and Brittney a chance. We haven't been playing that combination this year, and we felt like everyone else had got an opportunity and it was Takeya's turn to get a shot. She is extremely quick defensively and we tried to keep things in a flow with the screening game. She got into a groove and gave us a big spark.

On the changes at halftime...
We talked about being aggressive offensively. We felt like no one trusted each other out there. Nobody wanted to make the pass because it could be a turnover. We talked about playing aggressively, and that's when we went to the offensive where we set a lot of ball screens and keep things flowing. When we put Takeya, Courtney, and Brittney on the floor we had a nice flow of guard play, really attacking the rim.

On the three guard set...
I have always believed that you can have great post play, but the thing that makes a team go is great guard play. Anyone that has great guard play can beat you and you're never out of a game. When you have guards that can do some things off the dribble and attack the rim you are always going to be in the game. Brittney Thomas had a great game. She made all her free throws, she took great shots, she finished, and she got us in our offense. Those three kids were attacking and aggressive and that's the kind of guard play you need to balance out the post game.

On the emotion...
The crowd did a great job getting behind the players and keeping the emotion up for us. You can't achieve greatness if you don't get into it and invest a whole lot. The only way to invest a whole lot is give everything, not just your physical ability, but your mental ability and that includes your emotion. When we did that and things started to go our way, it seemed like a fire that got out of control, and everyone started showing emotion and picking it up a level.

On the importance of the win...
We were down 13 at halftime and it seemed like we were dead in the water. We really responded defensively and had someone else step up. It is a win that you build on, but you are only as good as your next one.

On Michigan State...
I want to congratulate Michigan State on a great second half. I thought they played extremely well. Our team played very well the first half, but didn't show the same passion and intensity in the second half. We made 17 second half turnovers and you aren't going to win games when you give up 36 points in a game on turnovers. Unfortunately we took the ball out of our own hands and gave it to Michigan State, and they were smart and they used it.

On Brittney Thomas and Courtney Davidson...
They did a great job against us. We had no answer to contain them, they did a super, super job against us.

On Kristi Smith...
Kristi has been doing a good job for us all year. She has been shooting the ball well and running our team. She had too many turnovers tonight. Kristi is doing her best to be our floor general. She is a scoring point guard like Brittney(Thomas), and I thought the both of them did a really nice job for their teams tonight.

On toughness of playing on the road...
I think any road win in the Big Ten is tough to get. No matter where you go, I think it is difficult to play on the road in the Big Ten. I think anytime you can get a win it's special.
