Michigan State Head Coach Suzy Merchant
"It was a night when we just didn't make shots. We talked about that. I think there's no question that there were people sagging off our perimeter into our post, they double teamed us in there. Keane was in there and we got some good looks at the bucket. When you go 4-for-21 at home and 4-for-10 at the foul line, it's kind of tough to win games. To put pressure on people you have to be able to put balls in the basket. We've had a lot of inconsistency at times doing that."
On the start to the second half...
"I think it was just really a lack of our focus, we consistently struggled. We did that against Oklahoma as well, several times. We have to do a better job taking care of the basketball and staying focused, I thought we fouled a lot there. We get out of a rhythm when people get into foul trouble. We need other people to step up. I thought Lauren did that, but it makes it tough on our rotation. Kalisha Keane could only play six minutes in the first half because of foul trouble. It makes it really hard, because all of our posts were in foul trouble. We just can't get into a flow because they're the ones righting the ship right now."
On the shot selection...
"We were trying to run in a little more in transition to see if we can get opportunities for ourselves that are a little easier to go against, because we've been struggling. I felt like we did that on the road at Northwestern and got some good looks. Yeah, it's a patience thing, a trust thing. We are trying all kinds of stuff...you saw us put a little flex action in to get some good buckets. We have some guards that aren't great off the dribble-drive so we want to put them in position to be successful, and also help Allyssa get away from the bucket. The first half, I thought it was good to us. Then we get into foul trouble, miss shots, and things start to go a little bit not our way."
On Indiana's guard play...
"I thought their guard play was aggressive in attacking. I thought the first half we did a nice job, giving up only 26 points. That's decent, that's pretty good defense. We just couldn't put the ball in the basket tonight. You're not going to win many games when you go 4-for-21 from the arc, and you have wide open looks at it. So I think shots become a little tougher for the other team and you have to give Indiana credit, because they hit open shots at times and our kids didn't. It was just a battle of the wills, and I thought their guards did a good job of stepping up and knocking down shots. I also thought their post did a good job of attacking on the ball."
