Michigan State Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie
I thought it was a great defensive game for us - very aggressive, especially early on. To hold any team below 50 points is an outstanding accomplishment. Out-rebounding them is obviously significant given our recent track record. We just want to build off of this. It was a different team out there tonight. There were a lot more players being active and being aggressive. There are a lot of different things I think we can do. I think we can play a lot better, but yet this is what we needed right now. Just really have a message of defense and a message of rebounding. So anyways, it was a good, strong game, and it was something to build from and I'm obviously looking forward to an excellent Illinois team coming in here on Sunday.
On the team's improved passing...
Twenty-three assists is extraordinarily significant given the fact that we hadn't touched that in a while. I know that we were at 19 at Rutgers, but to be up and over 20 was something that we really needed to do, and I believe that we have the passers and the teamwork to be able to do that more effectively.
On the team's play...
We've had a great schedule, and we've played a lot of teams. I think you need to be fed up a little bit right now for a lot of things when you're playing, because you just want to be so good. You want to play together. You want to take advantage of the opportunity, and I think our team had a focus. They were very focused. They were very motivated and very hungry. At this point, every opportunity to get a win puts you in a better position in everything. Everything counts so much, and I hope our team is beginning to understand that.
