Spartans Battle, Fall To Fighting Illini
Women's basketball knocked from Big Ten Tourney.

INDIANAPOLIS - With five players hitting double digits, the Fighting Illini outdistanced Michigan State 72-67 in their first game of the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament at Conseco Fieldhouse Friday afternoon.
Illinois, the tournament's fourth seed, were led by Susan Blauser and Allison Curtin, who both scored a team-high 16 points. Blauser also paced the Illini on the boards with seven caroms. Tauja Catchings and Kristi Faulkner each hit for 11 points and Kylie Martin added 10.
In Coach Karen Langeland's last game, Maxann Reese led Michigan State with 23 points. On 7-of-9 shooting, Becky Cummings contributed 14 points and Kristen Rasmussen shot 50 percent from the field for 12 points. Vnemina Reese finished with 10 points. MSU falls to 17-11 on the year.
Improving to 22-9, Illinois faces the winner of Penn State and Ohio State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
