EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's basketball team gave its fans a sneak peak of the 2008-09 season at today's Green & White game, held at the Breslin Center. The afternoon's event was broken up into three sessions - eight minutes against each other, 12 minutes against the scout team and a 20-minute session to conclude the day against the scout team.
In the opening portion, the green squad held off the white team, 7-5. Redshirt junior Aisha Jefferson led the green team with four points with sophomore Brittney Thomas chipping in three points. For the white, junior Allyssa DeHaan and sophomore Kalisha Keane each recorded a field goal.
After a short break, the Spartans regrouped to face off against the scout team. In the 12-minute game, MSU came out on top 17-13. DeHaan was the Spartans' top scorer posting seven points. Keane added three points, along with two steals on the defensive end. The Spartans were able to force 11 turnovers, seven of which came off of steals.
In the final session, the scout team came out on top, 30-26. Redshirt junior Lauren Aitch led the way over the final 20 minutes of action, tallying seven points. Thomas added five points, while DeHaan posted four points and a team-high four rebounds, and redshirt freshman Lykendra Johnson chipped in four points.
The Spartans begin their two-game exhibition schedule on Thursday, as they host Saginaw Valley State at 7 p.m.
