EAST LANSING, Mich. - Junior Kristen Rasmussen scored 20 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead the Michigan State women's basketball team to an 82-67 exhibition win over the Swiss National team today at the Breslin Center.
Head coach Karen Langeland used her entire bench and experimented with several lineups in the Spartans' only exhibition contest before the start of the regular season.
Sophomore Becky Cummings had a strong first half for the Spartans, scoring 10 points and pulling down seven rebounds in 11 minutes of action. The Swiss shot 55 percent from the field in the first half and went into halftime with a slim 44-42 advantage.
Rasmussen took over in the second half, scoring eight points in the first five minutes to help the Spartans take a 60-48 lead at the 14:02 mark. The Swiss would cut the lead to seven with less than seven minutes remaining in the game, but MSU quickly pushed the lead back to double figures and coasted to the win.
Cummings ended the game with 13 points and eight rebounds, while junior Maxann Reese added 13 points and five steals.
MSU opens the regular season next weekend with a pair of games at the Breslin Center. The Spartans host Butler on Friday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m., before taking on Central Michigan on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.
