Recap |  Box Score

Michigan State Head Coach Suzy Merchant

Opening Statement...
I think there were a lot of good things that we did but certainly there is a lot of improvement to be had. Our job as coaches is to never be too high and never be too low. We just really need to work on things that are going to make us better down the stretch in the Big Ten season.

On the strength of the offense compared to last year...
I certainly think that we have more options. I think the biggest thing is that we continue to execute and not get sloppy. We did that quite a bit in the second half. When you look at the big picture I think that we have quite a few options which takes the pressure off of a lot of kids.

On the scoring margin...
We certainly weren't going for it. We were just trying to focus on scoring every possession. Our goal was to execute and I thought that we executed some of our plays really well. We got to play everybody and a lot of them got good minutes. I'm not sure that we could have scored 116 points in five games last year because of the way we ran our offense at times. There is some good in it but certainly there is a learning curve as well.

On Lauren Aitch...
I thought that Lauren was pretty spectacular in terms of her ability to score and to block. She was aggressive and I thought she really went after it. She really attacked the offensive board. I certainly think that she is capable of this any given night and she is very consistent.

On Courtney Schiffauer...
She's a tough kid, there is no question about it. She plays with a lot of toughness and passion, and she doesn't back down. I think that she could be a tough matchup at times for people and if we keep her legs fresh, she could be very effective for us.
