No. 25 Spartans Open UCF Classic with 59-51 Win Over Western Kentucky

ORLANDO, Fla. - The No. 25 Michigan State women's basketball team began play at the 2010 UCF Thanksgiving Classic on Friday afternoon with a 59-51 win over Western Kentucky at UCF Arena. Seniors Kalisha Keane and Brittney Thomas each scored 14 points in the victory.
With the score tied at 6 in the early portions of the first half, the Spartans went on a 13-4 run over a six minute stretch to open up a nine point lead with eight and a half minutes to go. The Spartan advantage would grow to as much as 13 with 1:49 left, but WKU scored the final four points of the half to go into the break, 30-21.
The Hilltoppers would cut into the MSU lead in the second half, getting within five on a couple occasions, but the Spartans would continually find an answer. MSU held WKU without a field goal for 8:07 late in the game to seal the victory.
Joining Keane and Thomas in double-figures was sophomore Jasmine Thomas who added 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Senior Cetera Washington grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Junior Lykendra Johnson was strong on the defensive side with four steals and two blocks.
The Spartans (4-1) forced 25 Hilltopper turnovers and held WKU to 35.3% from the field.
Michigan State returns to action tomorrow for the final day of the UCF Thanksgiving Classic, when it faces Richmond at 12 p.m.
