Michigan State Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie
For us, tonight, we had excellent defense. To hold any team to 40 points is very good. We had some pretty good rebounding with 21 offensive rebounds and 20 assists, we're getting more and more assists. That's important to build our confidence and ball movement and get more people in the flow. Overall, a pretty good game. Obviously, I thought it was great to see Katrina Grantham with 11 rebounds and to see her aggressive like that.
On the play of Allyssa DeHaan...
It was excellent to see 10 rebounds from Allyssa DeHaan, and all of her offense and her blocks. Wow, she really was motivated. Houston really bothered her and she came back and showed her character. I was very impressed by that.
If we want to score more points, our first suggestion is to stop turning the ball over. Twenty-five turnovers has a way of cutting into momentum and we've got to do a much better job in that area. So we're going to try to grow in that area on Sunday.
Rhode Island Head Coach Tom Garrick
I was very impressed with Coach McCallie's team. I thought they played their game to perfection. They over-powered us physically and I thought they out-executed us. I was very impressed with their coaching and her team's ability to execute.
On handling Michigan State's size...
Allyssa DeHaan is, obviously, exceptionally different than most players in women's college basketball. For our kids, being as young as they are, it's tough for us to play against 6-3 and 6-4 players.
