Michigan State Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie

Opening statement...
Our team worked very hard and I'm pleased with some of the plays they made down the stretch. Whether it's Victoria (Lucas-Perry), Aisha (Jefferson)'s rebounding or a blocked shot by Allyssa (DeHaan), I thought it was a great team win against an excellent team. I love the fact that we had 24 assists - we shared the basketball and found open people. Our turnovers were down and we'd like to keep reducing them, but 16 is a far cry from some of our other games.

On the team's total effort...
There's a lot we can learn and we can get better from this game. I loved the fact that the team came together, played so hard together and made the big plays down the stretch. Our bench was superb. Everyone was involved and that's an important thing when we're trying to do good things against very good teams.

On containing South Florida's Jessica Dickson...
I think we located her and worked hard to make her work for her shots. She is a fantastic player that also rebounds the ball. We did some good things against her, but give her credit. She still came up with a very nice game.

On holding on late in the game...
We had a lot of team poise, and the five on the floor in particular had a great sense of each other and defensive poise. And it was provided by everybody - from Katrina (Grantham) to Allyssa (DeHaan), Victoria (Lucas-Perry), Rene (Haynes) and Aisha (Jefferson) - I thought it was a collective effort. They showed tremendous character. Character is an important part of this game and character is revealed a lot down the stretch. I thought we showed team character, got some stops that we needed, and attacked the basket and found each other when we needed to.

South Florida Head Coach Jose Fernandez

Opening Statement...
They're a good team. They had a couple kids step up for them in Aisha Jefferson and Allyssa DeHaan. It gives their team a different dynamic. They came down and played us last year and they had Liz [Shimek] in the post and Bowen at the point guard spot.

You're not going to win against a Top 25 team going 14-for-24 from the free throw line with 19 turnovers. These are the type of games you have to win if you want to get that national exposure. They do a very good job in that 3-2 zone. In the second half, they went on that run that really opened it up and we just mad runs at them. The big thing is they made some shots at crucial times. I think it was 75-71 and we had some turnovers. They are going to have a very good year. I think we are going to learn a lot from this game. It's definitely going to make us better.

On MSU being able to defend All-America candidate Jessica Dickson...
She had 19 shots so that's a pretty busy evening. They did a good job of whenever she cut to the hole of handing her off to someone else. I think they just had some people step up defensively and offensively. Aisha Jefferson had 16 points. She had a very good day.

On how MSU is different this year compared to last year...
They are very athletic out on the perimeter. They changed the dynamic of the game with DeHaan. She has good hands, good footwork and can change a lot of shots. Last year, they were different because of Bowen.
