EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Liz Shimek matched her career-high with 28 points and No. 13 Michigan State won a school-record 16th straight home game, 82-64 over Pepperdine on Sunday.
Shimek shot 13-for-15 from the field and had a game-best 12 rebounds for the Spartans (4-2).
Rene Haynes had 12 points and Aisha Jefferson added nine rebounds in a reserve role for Michigan State, which hadn't played in eight days after playing three straight days in a tournament in the Virgin Islands.
Daphanie Kennedy and Jasmane Clarendon each scored 12 points for the Waves (1-5), who shot 23.3 percent in the first half.
After allowing the game's first basket, the Spartans scored 11 straight points and led by 20 late in the first half. Pepperdine cut the deficit to 15 at halftime, but Michigan State built its lead to 21 points in the second half.
Michigan State shot 47.9 percent, and the Waves shot 32.7 percent. The Spartans outrebounded Pepperdine 48-34, and the Waves committed 19 turnovers.
