Illinois Rolls Over Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Alicia Sheeler scored 27 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to help No. 13 Illinois to an 82-67 victory over Michigan State on Friday night.

Eleven of Sheeler's rebounds were defensive, as Illinois (8-4, 3-0 Big Ten) outrebounded the Spartans 50-32. The Fighting Illini held a 19-10 edge in offensive rebounds and outscored the Spartans in second-chance points 24-9.

Ashley Berggren added 16 points and Tauja Catchings had 14 for the Illini, which led 35-31 at halftime despite shooting 35 percent from the field. Illinois improved to 56 percent shooting in the second half.

Jamie Wesley scored 26 points for Michigan State (6-7, 0-3), which shot 40 percent for the game, including 34 percent in the first half.

Bella Engen added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds in the loss.

Michigan State outscored Illinois in points off turnovers, 20-17, but also turned the ball over 19 times. The Spartans forced 23 turnovers, including 13 steals.
