Get to Know Junior Allyssa DeHaan

The tallest player in Michigan State history, Allyssa DeHaan is the face of the 2008-09 Spartans. DeHaan is second on the team in scoring at 10.6, and leads the team with 7.2 rebounds and 3.6 blocks. She has stepped up her numbers in Big Ten play, averaging 13.0 points and 9.4 rebounds.

Already the school's all-time blocked shots leader (353), DeHaan is quickly approaching the Big Ten record (31 shy) and has the NCAA record well in reach (127 away). She is also MSU's single-season block leader with 150 last season, and owns the top 10 single game marks, including posting nine blocks on three occasions. In addition, DeHaan was the fastest in Big Ten history to 300 blocks.

This season she became the 19th Spartan to surpass the 1,000-point plateau, becoming the fifth fastest in MSU history (75 games), and also is the 10th MSU player to post 1,000 points and 600 rebounds. Currently, she is 14th all-time in both points (1,111) and rebounds (633).

DeHaan has been an All-Big Ten honoree each of her two seasons and was also named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in her initial campaign.

What is your major? Human biology.

What makes your hometown special? The amazing people who live there.

What is your favorite memory from your childhood? Building tree forts on Gilligan's Island in my best friend Anna's backyard woods.

What was the last book you read? Principles of Biochemistry.

If you could play one-on-one against anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, because I too have a good looking hook shot.

If you could get tickets to any concert, dead or alive, who would it be? Jimmy Buffett.

What are the most played songs on your iPod? "Let it Rock" - Kevin Rudolf, "I'm Yours" - Jason Mraz and anything AC/DC.



What's been your favorite class at MSU? Anatomy.

If you could take a week-long trip to anywhere in the world, where would it be? And why? Tuscany, Italy. Its landscapes are simply beautiful.

Who are your role models? My family.

Who has been the most influential person in your life? My grandpa. Following a car accident, he was told he would never walk again. Today, he is doing just that and much more, truly an inspiration.

If you could play another sport in college what would it be? Volleyball.

At what age did you start playing basketball? Fifth grade.

What is the one thing that you wish you could learn to do? Play guitar.

What is your favorite place to eat in East Lansing? Coldstone. And what do you typically order? Cake batter ice cream with brownies and raspberries.

What is the best thing about Michigan State campus? There is never a dull moment. The campus is huge, but at the same time very personable because of our sense of community. You can yell "Go Green" just about anywhere and someone is going to yell "Go White" right back at you.

What is your favorite location on campus? The 4-H Children's Garden and Breslin, of course.

What is one thing you cannot live without? My bible.
