EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's basketball sophomore Brittney Thomas will miss the rest of the 2008-09 season, after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee on Friday, announced Spartan head coach Suzy Merchant. She will have it repaired in 2-3 weeks, with the typical recovery time taking 3-6 months.
"We are obviously disappointed to lose Brittney for the rest of the season," said Merchant. "She has been integral to the success of our team this season and will be missed on the court. We now need some different people to step up and fill her role for the remainder of the season."
Thomas has started the last 19 games at point guard for the Spartans, and leads them with 3.2 assists per game, good for 10th in the Big Ten. She is also fifth on the team with 6.0 points, fourth with 4.1 rebounds and second with 1.6 steals per game, while playing a team-best 32.5 minutes.
