Women's Basketball to Face Louisville in NCAA Tournament First Round

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's basketball team was selected to the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time in program history, receiving a No. 10 seed in the Raleigh Region. The Spartans, who appear in the tournament for the fourth straight season and for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons, will face No. 7 seed Louisville (22-9) on Saturday, March 17 at about 1:45 p.m. in College Park, Md. The game will be televised on ESPN2 and ESPN3.
Also appearing in the Raleigh bracket in College Park, will be No. 2 seed Maryland (28-4) and No. 15 seed Navy (18-13).
Michigan State has compiled a record of 15-11 in its previous NCAA Tournament appearances, including a 9-1 record in the first round. The Spartans have advanced out of the first round in each of their last seven appearances, including a trip to the National Championship game in 2005 and Sweet 16 appearance in 2006 and 2009.
It is head coach Suzy Merchant's fifth NCAA Tournament selection, having led MSU to the second round each of the last two seasons and the Sweet 16 in 2009, and Eastern Michigan to the NCAAs in 2004.
The Spartans enter the NCAA Tournament having won eight of their last 10 games, and are 20-11 on the season. MSU finished in a tie for second in the Big Ten at 11-5.
A record seven Big Ten teams qualified for the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
