East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State University seniors Maxann Reese and Kristen Rasmussen were selected today in the WNBA draft by the Portland Fire and Utah Starzz, respectively. Reese was selected in the third round, the 39th pick overall, while Rasmussen was chosen in the fourth round with the 51st selection overall. Reese and Rasmussen are the first-ever Spartan players selected in the WNBA draft.
Portland is one of four expansion teams in the WNBA this season. The Fire also drafted Michigan senior Stacey Thomas. Reese, who averaged 16.0 points per game as a senior, is a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection.
Rasmussen earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors as a senior after averaging 14.8 points and a Big Ten-leading 9.8 rebounds per game.
