EAST LANSING, Mich. - Former Michigan State women's basketball standout Kristin Haynie signed a contract with the WNBA's Detroit Shock on Wednesday, April 22. The Mason, Mich., native will begin her fifth WNBA season when the defending champion Shock travel to Chicago on May 22 for their first exhibition game.

Haynie has appeared in 131 games over her first four years in the WNBA, playing three seasons with Sacramento and last season with Atlanta. She holds career averages of 3.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 0.8 steals in 14.8 minutes per game. Haynie was the ninth overall selection in the 2005 WNBA Draft, becoming the fourth Spartan to chosen.

Haynie still holds the MSU career records in assists with 574 and steals with 346, while also ranking 10th with 1,199 career points. She was an honorable mention All-American her senior season, helping lead the Spartans to the 2005 NCAA Championship game, along with the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles.
