The forward looks to continue her basketball career.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Former Michigan State women’s basketball forward Taya Reimer has signed a free agent contract with the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks.
Reimer joins Aerial Powers as two former Spartans on active WNBA rosters. Powers begins her third season with the Dallas Wings.
Reimer will be the fourth player on the Sparks’ roster from a Big Ten team, joining Jolene Anderson (Wisconsin), Essence Carson (Rutgers), Jantel Lavender (Ohio State) and Cappie Pondexter (Rutgers)
The Spartan played two seasons with Michigan State after earning her undergraduate degree from Notre Dame. She scored her 1,000th career point against UConn on Nov. 25. During her two seasons with MSU, she averaged 9.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. She scored a career-high 22 points in the Spartans’ 4OT loss to Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament on March 1.
The Sparks, three-time WNBA Champions, won back-to-back WNBA titles in 2001 and 2002, and added their third title in 2016. Los Angeles has qualified for the postseason a WNBA record 17 times. Last season, the second-seeded Sparks fell to the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx in the decisive game five of the WNBA Finals.
The Sparks and the Connecticut Sun will tip off the preseason at 7 p.m. ET on Monday, May 7, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. The Sparks will then play again on Tuesday, May 8 at 5 p.m. ET against the New York Liberty at the same arena.
