EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's basketball head coach Suzy Merchant was inducted into the Traverse City Central High School Hall of Fame on Friday, June 11. Dr. Elizabeth Perkett and Patricia (Stokes) Olender joined Merchant in the Class of 2010.

Merchant was a 1987 graduate of Traverse City Central, lettering in three sports - basketball, volleyball and softball. She was an honorable mention All-American and a Class A All-State selection in basketball as a senior.

Merchant just completed her third season at Michigan State, after spending time as a head coach at Eastern Michigan (1998-07) and Saginaw Valley State (1995-98). In her 15 years as a head coach, she has won more than 60 percent of her games, collecting a 269-155 (.634) career record, including a 68-35 (.660) in her first three seasons in East Lansing. Her 68 wins are the most by a Spartan coach in their first three seasons at the helm. This past season, the Spartans advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round and finished the regular season second in the Big Ten for the second-straight season.
