June 16, 1998
Park Ridge, Ill. - Michigan State basketball player Becky Cummings (Walled Lake) will represent the Spartans on the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tour Team that will play five games against national and club teams in Sweden and Denmark, June 20-26.
Cummings, a sophomore-to-be, appeared in 27 games as a rookie in 1997-98, averaging 4.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. The 6-3 forward, who made five starts, averaged 16.5 minutes per game.
"This is a great opportunity for Becky to get some additional experience and play against some strong international competition," MSU coach Karen Langeland said. "In the past, the Big Ten Tour team has provided our players with an excellent experience and has benefited them going into the next season."
The 1998 tour team is made up of 12 players and is coached by Minnesota first-year mentor Cheryl Littlejohn. The squad is currently practicing in Minneapolis and will depart for Denmark on Wednesday, June 17.
Cummings and the Big Ten Tour team will face MSU's Pernille Dalgaard in a pair of games, June 21 and 22. Dalgaard, who will be the Spartans' lone senior in 1998-99, is spending the summer playing with the Danish National Team.
