EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women’s basketball player Shay Colley and the Canadian Women’s National Team opened action at the FIBA Americas Women’s Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Team Canada leads Group B with a 2-0 record. Also playing in Group B is Puerto Rico (1-1), Paraguay (1-1), Cuba (0-2) and Mexico. Brazil leads Group A with a perfect 2-0 record. Canada has outscored the opposition 156-94 over the course of their first two games.
In their first game of the competition, Canada dominated Cuba, 81-35. Colley, a native of Brampton, Ontario, scored six points and brought down five rebounds in 23 minutes. The guard also led the team with five assists.
In its second contest, team Canada defeated Puerto Rico, 75-59. Colley earned the start, scoring four points with three rebounds in 17 minutes of action. Canada was led by 17 points from Kia Nurse. With the victory, Canada extends their tournament winning streak over Puerto Rico to eight consecutive games, dating back to the 1995 American Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women.
Canada continues group play tomorrow on Tuesday, Aug. 8 against Mexico at 3:05 p.m. ET. The game will be live streamed on FIBA’s YouTube Channel.
