Get to Know Freshman Taylor Alton

Taylor Alton is a 5-11 multi-dimensional freshman from Highlands Ranch, Colo., who has the ability to play both the shooting guard and small forward position. She helped lead Highlands Ranch to the Class 5A State title last season and a top-10 national ranking at season's end. Taylor was a Third Team All-State selection by the Denver Post and participated in The Show 2008, a Colorado high school all-star game.

What is your birthday? Sept. 7, 1990
What is your major? Animal science
What makes your hometown special? My hometown is special because it has an amazing sense of community pride. With four big rivals within five miles of each other, and at least three other very competitive schools around it, it creates a very spirited atmosphere. The support for the schools and teams is second to none.
At what age did you start playing basketball? I started playing basketball at the age of 10, in 5th grade.
What's been you favorite class at MSU? My favorite class at MSU so far has been, hands down, my Introductory Horse Management class.
Who has been the most influential person in your life? This is a tie between my mom and dad. Without either of them, I would not be the person I am today, as they have both impacted me in very different, yet monumental ways.
Who are your role models? My role models are definitely my parents. They have demonstrated their love in countless ways and I am so thankful that they have sacrificed so much and helped me live my dreams.
If you could play one-on-one against anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? I would definitely want to play against Larry Bird. He has been my biggest basketball inspiration, apart from my dad. I have always tried to emulate him and I feel he is one of the greats, not only for his achievements, but also for how he took what was given to him and transformed those through hard work and perseverance.
What was the last book you read? The last book I read was Breaking Dawn, from the Twilight series.
If you could get front row seats to any concert, dead or alive, who would it be? This is a tough question, but I would have to say that I would love to see either AC/DC or Van Halen in concert. I am a HUGE classic rock fan, and both of these groups are amazing.
What is one thing that you could not live without? My Bible and family.
What is your hidden talent? I would have to say my hidden talent is that I used to Irish dance, and although I have mostly lost all my abilities, I still really enjoy that kind of performance.
What is your favorite location on campus? My favorite location on campus is either the Breslin Center, the McPhail Equine Performance Center, or the Beaumont Tower and surrounding areas with the old buildings.
What is one thing that you wish you could learn to do? I really want to learn how to speak Italian.
What are your favorite professional sports teams? Detroit Pistons, Detroit Shock, Indianapolis Colts, Detroit Red Wings, and I guess the Colorado Rockies.
Who are your favorite professional athletes? Sue Bird, Tayshaun Prince, LeBron James of course, Peyton Manning, and Brian Urlacher.
What are the most played songs on your iPod? "Personal Jesus" by Depeche Mode, "TNT" by AC/DC, "What Would You Say" by Dave Matthews Band, "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey, "Take It All" by Hillsong United, "Something Like That" by Tim McGraw, "Beautiful Day" by U2.
What is your favorite memory from your childhood? My favorite memory from my childhood is not exactly from when I was very young. It would actually have to be from last year, when my high school basketball team won the state championship. It was an incredible feeling.
If you could take a week-long trip to anywhere in the world, where would it be? I would love to visit so many places, but if I could only have one week, I would want to take a Mediterranean tour and visit Italy and Greece because I have always been fascinated by their culture and gorgeous countries.
If you could play another sport in college, what would it be? I would run track (hurdles), if I had the speed!
