EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State redshirt freshman Aerial Powers was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week today for the second time this season. Powers, who was also named to the Big Ten Player of the Week honor roll, led the Spartans with 21 points and 11 rebounds in Sunday's win over Oakland.
It was Powers' third double-double in the last four games. Powers also added three assists, three steals and a season-high two blocks in a season-high 35 minutes in the Spartans' 80-62 win. She went 7-for-16 from the field and 7-for-8 from the free throw line.
The 6-0 forward from Detroit, Mich., is second on the team in points (14.1), and leads the team in rebounds (7.4) and steals (2.2), while playing only 25.2 minutes per game. She is third on the team in field goal percentage (51.4%). Among Big Ten players, Powers is fifth in steals, seventh in rebounds, 11 in field goal percentage and 16th in points.
Powers is the first Spartan to earn the honor twice in a season.
Michigan State (6-4) returns to action on Thursday at the Puerto Rico Classic, facing No. 14 Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. ET.
