Spartans Set for Home Debut

RETURNING HOME FOR THE FIRST TIME: Michigan State women's crew makes its home debut as a varsity sport Sunday in the Head of the Grand. The Spartans welcome Grand Valley State to the waters of the Grand River for racing which kicks off at 9 a.m. The MSU men's club team is also racing Sunday. Michigan State will feature nine boats on the water Sunday. The Spartans will race two varsity eights, two varsity fours, four novice eights and a novice four.
MORE EARLY SUCCESS: The Spartans' second competition of the fall produced strong results, as Michigan State finished 1-2 in the varsity eight competition at the Head of the Eagle in Indianapolis last weekend. The Spartan varsity four claimed second in its race.
BOAT NOTES: Grand River Park provides the best vantage point for this Sunday's racing. The park is located off on the Lansing Road exit of I-496, just a few minutes from campus ... This weekend marks the first appearance of the Michigan State novice boats, who have been training under the tutelage of novice coach Matt Weise ... The Spartan captains this season are Lori Knipe and Liz Schafer ... An alumni race will follow the intercollegiate competition Sunday at 1 p.m.
