Rowing Season Begins This Weekend at Oak Ridge

Spartans Face Earliest Start Since 2009

2014: Academic All-Big Ten... Defeated Duke by eight seconds in the varsity eight race at Virginia (4/26)... Finished a half-length behind No. 12 Washington State and a full length ahead of No. 18 Syracuse at the Clemson Invitational (4/19)... Varsity eight defeated both Boston and Rutgers by more than 15 seconds (3/28)... Varsity eight defeated Kansas by open water and posted a win over Tennessee by a length on the first day at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational (3/15).

2013: Opened the season (March 30) as the coxswain for the varsity eight, falling to both Michigan and Notre Dame by two lengths... Coxed the varsity eight in a four-boat race with Big Ten foes Michigan, Ohio State, and Indiana (April 13) when conditions forced a change from a double-dual format. Finished fourth in a time of 6:54.13 ... Lined up with some of the best crews in the country at the Clemson Invitational (April 20-21). As the coxswain of the varsity eight, crossed the line in a time of 6:48.3 in the Saturday morning heat, a race Cornell won in a time of 6:35.0. In the Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning session at Clemson, coxed the second varsity eight which finished its Saturday heat in fifth, just five-tenths of a second behind Indiana in a time of 6:41.7. In Sunday's finale, finished behind Cornell (7:09.7), Oklahoma, Clemson, and Louisville, clocked in a time of 7:19.3 ... As the coxswain of the second varsity eight, posted a five-second win over Duke (7:05.04) after falling to No. 4 Virginia by open water when the team traveled to take on the host Cavaliers and the Blue Devils (April 27) ... Raced Big Ten foes Minnesota and Wisconsin in the final week of the regular season (May 5), and rowed to a third-place finish (6:56.4) as the coxswain in the second varsity eight ... As the coxswain, helped the varsity eight to a fourth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships (May 19) in a time of 6:44.334, avenging a pair of losses to Minnesota in the regular season. Helped MSU finish fourth at the Championships as a team.

2011: Has served mainly as the coxswain for the second novice eight... Rowed to a fifth-place finish with the second novice eight in the Big Ten Championships with a time of 7:11.13...Defeated Indiana twice by margins of 37.7 and 31.2 seconds in the Dale England Cup... Competed with the novice eight in two Big Ten races against Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Prior to MSU: Lettered in rowing all four years of high school... Won a silver medal at the Mid-West Junior Championships as the coxswain of the junior eight and took fourth place at the Club Nationals... As a senior, took first at the Mid-West Junior Rowing Championships and 9th at Youth Nationals with the light weight eight.

Personal: Born March 19, 1993... Daughter of Thomas McGarry... A pre-med major.
