MSU Dominates Head of the Grand

Crew sweeps every race in inaugural home event

East Lansing, Mich.- Michigan State dominated visiting Grand Valley State University at the Head of the Grand this morning at Grand River Park in Lansing, winning every race.

It was the first home race for woman's crew as a varsity sport at Michigan State. The outstanding all- around performance by MSU was highlighted by a 1-2 finish in the varsity eight race.

"The day was a success in that we won every race." head coach Bebe Bryans said. "But more important to me right now was how we improved mentally, we handled the conditions and we are getting a better idea of what we can accomplish."

Several hundred fans lined the shore of Grand River Park, braving cold weather, a mix of rain and freezing rain and a steady wind which rowers had to row into.

"It is a nice race course," Bryans said, "There are some great vantage points. It will be nice to hold some bigger, more formal regattas here."
