East Lansing, MIch. - Michigan State faces a critical weekend of competition at the Clemson Invitational this weekend, as some of the best crews in the nation line up on Lake Hartwell on Saturday and Sunday.
MSU will be among the 18 teams competing in this regatta on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's racing is broken up into two sessions, with the morning session starting just before 9 a.m.
Seven of the 18 teams in the field this weekend are ranked in the CRCA Top 20: No. 3 Virginia, No. 4 Ohio State, No. 5 UCLA, No. 13 Michigan, No. 18 Louisville, No. 19 Cornell and No. 20 Duke. MSU will see both Virginia and Duke next weekend in Charlottesville for a dual race, and has already raced Ohio State and Michigan (twice) this season.
Head Coach Matt Weise and assistants Christiina Donley and Katie Bitz are looking for the continued improvement of their crews. After losing a significant number of athletes from the varsity eight last season, seat racing is still in play as the staff continues to tinker to find combinations of speed and power in each boat.
