East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State heads to Charlottesville, Va.this weekend for dual races against Virginia and Duke.
The racing this weekend for MSU features solely NCAA boats - the two varsity eights and varsity four will be the only boats in action. MSU lined up with both crews last weekend at the Clemson Invitational, and MSU also raced Virginia in a series of exhibition races over spring break. Wisconsin is also in Charlottesville to race this pair of ACC foes this weekend. The crews will compete on Lake Monticello, with racing scheduled to begin Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m., as MSU lines up with the host Cavaliers; the afternoon session begins at noon with MSU racing Duke.
Virginia, the defending national champion, enters the weekend at No. 4 in the latest CRCA national Top 20. Duke is receiving votes after being ranked No. 20 a week ago.
There have been some significant changes in the two eights over the last week, as head coach Matt Weise continues to tinker with his lineups in an effort to generate speed and power. The varsity eight now features one veteran senior, four freshmen, a sophomore, and a pair of upperclass novices .
