Moore, Cromie Earn All-Region Honors
May 30, 2014
East Lansing, Mich. - - Two Michigan State rowers - senior Laura Moore (Battle Creek, Mich.) and sophomore Katie Cromie (County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland) were named to the All-Central Region teams by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches of America (CRCA). Nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.
Cromie was a first team All-Big Ten selection and the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2013, and earns All-Central Region honors for the second straight season. Both she and Moore rowed in each of MSU's races this season in the varsity eight. Moore, who was a novice in 2013, impressed the coaching staff not only with her physical and technical abilities, but also her leadership qualities. She was a part of the team's leadership group as a senior. It is her first All-Central Region honor, and she was also a first team All-Big Ten Selection and Academic All-Big Ten pick this season.
"This is a very well-deserved honor for both athletes," said head coach Matt Weise. "Laura came into our program late in her college career, but there's no doubt that she made an impact over her two seasons in helping us get back on track both on and out of the water. Katie is just an outstanding, tough competitor - she had some injury issues to overcome this season, but she never gave us less than her absolute best, and didn't miss a race."
