Field Hockey Falls in Final Second of Overtime

No.16 Michigan State dropped its season opener at home on Friday afternoon in heartbreaking fashion, losing to fourth ranked and national runner-up Duke in overtime. Trailing 1-0 with the clock ticking down in regulation, Abby Barker created space from the left side of the circle and found the back of the net to tie the game up with eight seconds remaining, forcing overtime.


Field Hockey Season Preview

No. 16 Michigan State field hockey will open up the 2014 season on Friday, Aug. 29 when it plays host to No. 4 Duke at 3 p.m. at Ralph Young Field. Head coach Helen Knull prepares for her fourth season at the helm of Michigan State field hockey and the Spartans look to build off of their most successful season under Knull as head coach. Field Hockey Ranked 16th in Preseason Poll

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) has announced its 2014 Preseason Poll, and Michigan State ranks 16th in the nation to start the year. The Spartans look to build on the 2013 season that included a Big Ten Tournament Championship and run to the Elite 8.


Balanced Offense Powers Spartans in Exhibition

Michigan State field hockey won both of its exhibition matches on Saturday afternoon, defeating Central Michigan (5-1)and Kent State (5-3). A balanced offense led the way in both matchups, as the Spartans got goals from five different players in each game.


Three Spartans Named as Players to Watch

The Big Ten announced its 2014 Players to Watch list on Thursday, which included three Spartans: Seniors Abby Barker, Jenni Smith, and Becky Stiles.
