Nov. 2, 1997 MSU Drops Regular-Season Finale to Michigan, 4-0EAST LANSING, MICH. -- Michiganis Julie Flachs scored a hat trick as the No. 11 Wolverines defeated Michigan State, 4-0, claiming a share of the Big Ten Title. MSU only trailed 1-0 at halftime, but U-M broke it open early in the second half, as Flachs and Kelli Gannon scored 37 seconds apart to give Michigan breathing room at 3-0. Flachs, who scored the Wolverines' first-half goal, added her third of the game with 14:32 remaining to wind up the scoring. Michigan Stateis Beth George stopped nine shots in net, but couldn't overcome 15 Michigan penalty corners.
The loss drops the Spartans to 10-9, 3-7 in conference play. Michigan jumps to 15-5, 7-3. Both schools now head to Iowa City, Iowa, for the 1997 Big Ten Championships.
